Core & Main Rust Converter, 1 Gallon, 4/Pack
Description
Rust Converter is a liquid surface conditioner and primer that converts existing rust into an inert protective barrier coating that seals out moisture and future corrosion to prevent rust starting. Unlike other rust protection products, it is not a simple rust cleaner or cover-up. The special formula attacks rust at the chemical reaction level, for fast, long-lasting results. Treated metal surfaces turn matte black in color and then the coating can be painted with an oil-based paint for even longer protection and resistant against future rust growth. Refer to the rust converter specification sheet and safety data sheet for further information and instructions.

FAQ
Does rust converter really work?
Yes, rust converter does work without removing rust. Rust converters use tannic acid to transform existing rusted metal (iron oxide) into a dark-colored stable, inert layer of iron tannate, that can prevent further corrosion. These types of chemical solutions stabilize the rust which is then less prone to corrosion and provides a good base for further treatment. The ability to convert rust is ideal in these situations.
Can you paint directly over a rust converter?
Yes, you can paint over a rust converter. Apply the chemical solution with a brush or roller over rusted areas as a primer covering all the rust. Allow coating to dry then apply oil-based paint or a second coat to the converted surface area. Ideal for projects including iron railings, fuel tanks, vehicle frames, bodies of older cars, rusted out truck bed liners and more. Since this is not a rust remover, no wire brush is required to remove loose rust.
